This adventure takes you through the heart of Africa to encounter the rare and majestic mountain gorillas in three distinct habitats.
The dense jungles of Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and the ancient forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda.
Each trekking experience provides a new perspective on gorilla behavior and conservation making this a once-in-a-lifetime journey.
The tour also includes optional activities such as visiting the Dian Fossey gravesite or trekking golden monkeys as well as cultural experiences with local communities.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by the company representative and transferred to your hotel.
If time permits, take a city tour of Kigali, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history. Relax at your hotel and prepare for your journey.

Day 2: Transfer to Virunga National Park, DR Congo
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Goma at the Rwanda-Congo border.
After border formalities, you’ll cross into the Democratic Republic of Congo and continue to Virunga National Park, home to one of the world’s oldest national parks and mountain gorillas. Settle in at your lodge near the park and this will take around 4-5 hour’s drive.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park
This morning, venture into the dense forests of Virunga National Park for your first gorilla trekking experience.
After a briefing at the park headquarters, begin your trek into the misty jungle, guided by expert trackers who will lead you to a habituated gorilla family.
Once found, spend a magical hour observing them in their natural habitat. Return to your lodge for relaxation. Trekking duration can be 2-7 hours.

Day 4: Nyiragongo Volcano Hike and Transfer to Rwanda
For adventurous travelers, you can opt to hike Nyiragongo Volcano, home to the world’s largest lava lake.
This 2-day hike is an exhilarating experience (additional cost). Alternatively, transfer back to Rwanda, heading to Volcanoes National Park for your second trekking adventure.
Arrive at your lodge near the park by evening.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
Prepare for your second gorilla trekking adventure in the beautiful bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park.
After a briefing, trek through the park’s mountainous terrain to find a gorilla family. Spend an hour in their presence before returning to your lodge for relaxation.

Day 6: Dian Fossey Grave Hike or Golden Monkey Trekking
Today, enjoy another wildlife experience by either visiting the grave of Dian Fossey, the renowned primatologist or joining a golden monkey trekking expedition.
Both activities offer an opportunity to learn more about Rwanda’s rich conservation efforts.
In the afternoon, transfer to Uganda, heading to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. About 3-4 hours’ drive.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda
Your final gorilla trekking adventure waits in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bwindi.
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting off through the dense forest.
Bwindi’s challenging terrain makes this trek one of the most rewarding as you encounter a different gorilla family.
After an hour with the gorillas, return to your lodge for some well-earned rest.

Day 8: Optional Community Visit & Transfer to Kigali, Rwanda
This morning, you can visit a local Batwa community to learn about their ancient hunter-gatherer culture.
Afterward, begin your journey back to Kigali, crossing the border into Rwanda.
Arrive in Kigali in the afternoon and enjoy a relaxing evening at your hotel.

Day 9: Kigali City Tour & Departure
